Will this man do what is right for the country? Or for himself?

“We should not be judged by how many new laws we create, we ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal.” – Speaker of the House, John Boehner (R-OH)

That statement is exactly backwards from reality. Those we elect and send to the House of Representatives and the Senate are called lawmakers; they are not called law-repealers. But it does give a little insight into the backwards thinking of the GOP.

The 2013th Congress, (in session now), is on pace to be the least productive in American history. The least productive Congress in American history was the 2012th; also Boehner-led.

Now the Republicans are once again taking a hostage, (the American economy), and threatening to shoot it unless they get their way. The last time we as a country went through this entirely Republican made-up crisis, Speaker Boehner said they would kill the hostage, (the economy), unless we allowed them to cut the hostage and make it bleed. The sequester cuts are the cuts the Republicans were allowed to make to the hostage. Cuts that are still bleeding today, and where the loss of blood is getting worse by the day.

A bill could be easily passed in the House of Representatives that would keep the government up and running and end these dangerous self-inflicted crises. However, that bill would have to be passed with the help of the Democrats. Of course there is a silly made-up rule called the “Hastert Rule.” That rule, which isn’t actually a rule, nor does it have anything to do with Sen. Hastert, says that a Republican leader cannot bring a bill to the floor of the House for a vote unless and until the Republicans have a majority of their own party on board with it.

Boehner has already broken the “Hastert Rule” on a couple of previous occasions. So we know he can and will do it if he wants to. The problem lies in the fact that if Boehner breaks the so-called Hastert Rule again, he may get voted out of the Speakership.

Boehner has a choice to make. Stand by some silly made-up non-rule and possibly keep his job, harming the country in the process. Or he could do what is right for the country and allow the chips to fall where they may.

Here’s to hoping that John Boehner loves his country more than his job.
